Dear Friends,
We’re writing to support the Grandview-Woodland Community Policing Centre (GWCPC) located at 4th and Commercial (1977 Commercial Drive). It is a volunteer-run non-profit agency that has helped many residents, businesses and agencies in our neighbourhood.
Recently it has been the target of repeated vandalism which has compromised their insurance coverage. The windows and door are broken, and although it’s open to serve the community it’s boarded up and encased in plywood.
Although the GWCPC does receive funding from the City of Vancouver, these funds cover operating costs only, and do not extend to insurance coverage or the cost of broken windows.
The GWCPC is an important community resource that needs to be supported. It provides valuable services to the Commercial Drive neighbourhood, and strives to improve the quality of life for all of us.
The GWCPC’s committed volunteers are available to hear complaints, answer questions, record citizen crime reports, provide general tips and information, and make referrals to community agencies about everything from landlord/tenant disputes to food banks and shelters.
The GWCPC also provides crime prevention programs such as foot, bike and pooch patrols; community outreach and educational initiatives; the restART program to help redirect the efforts of graffiti artists into mural painters; child identification; bike identification; security audits and safety alerts just to name a few.
